(7)MONOLOGUE

Rather than starting with a visual inspiration or a “theme”, I tried to design the process instead of the clothing itself. The draped top, for example, was reconstructed from jacket panels I had draped - almost like deliberately mismatching puzzle pieces, then trying to create a picture that somehow makes sense.

There’s also a shirt-inspired top that is basically a ridiculously scaled-up shirt sleeve cuff pattern, reassembled until it works as a top. The collection also introduced a sock/shoe-cover design that went on to do commercially very well.

I guess if there was a theme, it would be embracing mistakes and deliberately making them - almost like a game where I create a problem or constraint for myself, then try to find a way to solve it.
